When you set goals, how do you keep up with them? Do you keep a record throughout the process? This is a very important part of goals. You should keep records so you can look back and discover the progress (or lack thereof) you’ve made towards your goals. Keeping a journal is a great way to do this. Here are some tips you can use on how to keep a journal for your goals.

JOURNAL OFTEN

It is important that you continue journaling often in your goal journal. Many people start keeping record of their progress, then tend to slack after a while. This usually happens when they become bored with their goals or are procrastinating, and thus not actually working towards their goals anymore.

RECORD DATES AND TIMES

As you journal about your goal process, remember to include dates and times on each entry. This is especially important because it will show you how long it took for you to step from one point to another.

REFLECT EACH MONTH

Usually your goals will either be long-term or will be reached and then new goals will be set. Either way, it is important for you to take time to reflect at the end of each month on where you are and what you’ve accomplished within the month. You’ll be able to spot flaws in time management and productivity. These can be tweaked for even better performance in upcoming months.

WRITE BRIEF ENTRIES

In most cases, you won’t need to create long, sprawling journal entries about your goals. Simply record the date and time, then write a brief statement about what you accomplished that day. For example, one of your journal entries might look something like this:

Friday, October 3, 2006
3:35 pm

Things I accomplished today:

finished X project for Client B

started Y project for Client D

sent replies to email requests

image: stock.xchng

Journaling is a method of chronicling one’s life story. It has been around for decades. Journaling has grown so much so that we keep all sorts of journals today: dieting, memoirs, exercise, children, academic.

Many people have a burning desire to write their own memoir. The trouble is they never get around to writing it because they don’t know where to begin. Using a journal can be extremely helpful in connecting all the dots of your life. This article will show you how you can use your journal to do just that.

STEP ONE
Begin with a brand new journal or notebook. Decide if you want to work from date to birth, or birth to date.

STEP TWO
At the beginning of the book, jot the date that you’re beginning this project. You’ll want to be able to measure the amount of time it takes to complete this. Starting at the first page of the journal, write your date of birth at the top of the page.

STEP THREE
Count 10 pages. Write the number 1 at the top of the next page. Skip another ten pages then write the number 2 at the top of the next page. Continue doing this until you reach your current age now. You might want to skip more or less pages between some years. That is totally up to you. Just be sure you leave enough blank pages to write on for each year.

STEP FOUR
After you finish with step three, go back to the beginning and start writing about things that happened in each year of your life. Some years may hold no memories for you. Skip them and go back to them later when you can interview someone who knew you well then.

By the time you reach the end of the journal, you will have a book full of memories and information. Doing this exercise is a great way to chronicle your life. You will probably learn a lot of things you didn’t know. You might stir up old memories long forgotten as well. Have fun and don’t be afraid to ask questions to family members.

Are you feeling tired and rushed all the time? Do you seem to always give to others and rarely receive anything in return? Here are some nice things you can do for yourself today:

Buy yourself some flowers. Flowers brighten anyone’s day. Why wait for someone else to give you flowers? Buy yourself a bright, pretty bouquet and place it on your desk or somewhere nearby. A simple, inexpensive bouquet of flowers can do wonders to brighten your mood.

Head to the gym. One of the first things that goes when we neglect ourselves is our body. Buy yourself a gym membership, then visit regularly. A few trips to the gym every week is not only good for your body, but you’ll be able to work out all your frustrations, as well.

Drink more water. It’s a fact that most people don’t hydrate enough. Buy bottled water to have on hand. It will be much easier to say no to another soda if you can grab a bottle of water to go.

Take a Yoga class. Yoga is known for its healing and calming powers. There are often Yoga classes for beginners, which are great to teach you the basics of Yoga. Sign up for one and try it out.

Schedule a spa day. Sometimes you just need to unwind and relax with no worries and nobody around. Call your favorite spa and schedule some “you” time there.

Keep a journal. Journaling is a great place to vent about all your frustrations, too. It’s a safe place, for your thoughts and eyes only, where you can write about everything happening in your life. If you keep a journal only for such a purpose, you can burn it or shred it after all the pages are filled. It’s a healthy, disposable therapy session.

Lay off the junk food. Practice healthier eating habits by ditching the junk. Instead of that mid-day candy bar, pack yourself a healthy snack of nuts, fruits, or raw veggies with dip.

Are you a naturally negative person? Do you have trouble seeing the good in anything? Many people find themselves in this pit of negative thinking after having gone through a sequence of “bad” things happening to them. One way to help yourself out of this is to practice positive thinking on paper. Here are some tips to help you get started:

Keep a self-improvement journal. Buy yourself a nice journal and ink pen. At the beginning of the journal, write a list of goals you’d like to accomplish. Every day make a record of what you did to reach one of your goals. Every day you should work towards one of these, positive thinking, being the main goal. At the end of every month, go back and read your journal entries to see what kind of progress you’ve made. At the end of the year, you’ll have a record book full of entries and you will be able to see how you’ve grown and are thinking more positively about yourself.

Read books on self-improvement. Sometimes the best thing you can do for yourself is head to the library and check out several books on self-improvement. Reading these books will help you develop yourself. They can also help you learn how to think more positively.

Start a positive thinking note card journal. Check your local office supply store or Wal-Mart for a book of wire-bound index cards. Every time you see a quote you like, write it on an index card. Continue doing this until the entire book of note cards is filled. Place the book on your desk or carry it around with you for quick boosts of positivity.

Are you having trouble trying to measure your personal success? Do you feel like you haven’t accomplished much and wonder where you’re going or what you’re doing? Journaling is a great way to chronicle your journey. Here are some tips on how you can use a journal as you strive towards success.

1. Don’t go fancy. The best way to keep and use a journal is to buy a notebook or journal that isn’t so pretty or attractive that you don’t want to mess it up by writing in it. Buy something rugged that can withstand being carried around and transported without tearing up.

2. Write down dates and times. As you begin your success journal, remember to write the date and even the time at the top of each page. You want to keep your journal very detailed so you can go back to specific dates as needed.

3. Make a note of accomplishments. Don’t forget to write down every accomplishment you experience, no matter how great or small. These are milestones in your journey to success and should be recorded.

4. Make a note of failures or mistakes. As equally important is your mistakes and failures. These are filled with important lessons for you to learn from. While you might feel bad about them at the time, it is important to write them down and write down any lessons you can see from them at the time.

5. Jot down your thoughts and feelings. It is also important that you keep notes of your thoughts during these times as well. You’ll be able to track your emotional highs and lows, and will probably even be able to see how your mental status corresponds with your successes or lack thereof.

The idea of a gratitude journal was made popular when Oprah proclaimed on her talk show that she keeps one herself. The gratitude journal took the world by storm, but seems to have died down over the last few years. If you don’t already keep a gratitude journal, you should. It is a great way to record daily blessings and will motivate and inspire you to look for the good in everything.

Step 1: Choose a journal. First, purchase a journal to write your gratitude lists in. It can be as simple or elaborate as you’d like. You might even want to buy a blank journal and decorate the front cover yourself.

Step 2: Write your gratitude list daily. The most important thing about keeping a gratitude journal is to write in it every single day. There will be days when you don’t feel like writing anything. Those days are the most important ones to write a gratitude list.

The beauty of a gratitude journal is that it becomes a fun habit once you write in it for a few weeks. You’ll begin to look forward to writing your daily gratitude list. Here are some tips to keeping you going:

Ask yourself every day, “What am I grateful for today?”

Lots of people keep a journal for many different reasons. If you are depressed, I want to encourage you to journal your way out of depression.

As always, if you are depressed, you should always follow your physician’s instructions. If you have been prescribed medication for depression, do not stop taking it. Rather, think of journaling as an extra tool to help you walk out of that depression.

One of the most common symptoms of depression is extreme anxiety or a feeling of hopelessness about a situation. When you feel like you don’t have any control over a situation, you feel extreme anxiety because of it, which only feeds into your already depressive state.

Journaling is an outlet for you to express your thoughts and feelings without causing harm or damage to yourself or anyone around you. So often, a patient who is depressed will scream at others around them or lash out in anger at others, even though they don’t mean to. Journaling helps stop this.

Keeping a journal for your depression is very easy and simple to do. Don’t think that you can only write in your journal. You should use your journal in any way you see fit to help you work through what you are feeling.

The most important thing about journaling through your depression is that you put your thoughts and feelings on the paper. Whether it is through writing, creating collages, or drawing pictures. Any way you choose to do it is fine.
