Anxiety is a mental state in which you worry excessively and experience a feeling of nervousness. It can be brought on by many different factors and usually leads to anxiety and panic attacks.

Anxiety can create tremendous emotional and physical problems. With it usually comes attacks, which make you feel like you can’t breathe. You might feel as though your throat has swollen and the air passage is closing. Some people feel lightheaded and dizzy, too. Overall, a feeling of loss of control overwhelms those who suffer with anxiety.

Fear plays a huge role in all this. In fact, fear can probably be pinpointed as the starting point of worry and anxiety.

The most common way fear worms its way into your mind is by playing the “What if…?” game. You might have a thought, then think, ‘What if…?’ These what if statements end up turning into huge, drawn-out thought processes that leave you feeling helpless and out of control.

It is important when you are fighting anxiety to remember that you are in control of your mind. You must calm yourself into a relaxed state of mind so that you do not trigger those what if thoughts again. You must learn to relax and ignore those hypothetical questions.

When you allow your fears to take control of your mind, anxiety kicks in worse than ever. It will plague your mind and body like nothing you’ve ever experienced before. Take charge of your mind and throw fear out the window.

Word Web defines anxiety as a relatively permanent state of worry and nervousness occurring in a variety of mental disorders, usually accompanied by compulsive behavior or attacks of panic. Anxiety causes you to worry about things that could never even happen.

One of the main issues regarding anxiety is the fact that it so easily consumes a person’s life. In very little time, anxiety attacks can cause a person to feel out of control, crazy even. With symptoms like sweating, nervousness, nausea and tension, breathlessness, and anxiety can make you feel as though you might even die.

Many people who suffer from anxiety are ashamed of how they feel. They think that something really terrible must be wrong with them, for them to experience such horrible things. They are often afraid to tell their doctor, for fear they may be hospitalized in a mental institution.

Those suffering from severe anxiety may feel like it will never end. Many become hermits, as they stay indoors to hide from the public because they are afraid their secret will come out if they are around others. In fact, some may even experience feelings of paranoia as well.

If any of these symptoms discussed within this article sound like something that you have been experiencing, there is hope for you. Don’t allow anxiety to take control of your life. If you have been feeling like you can’t be around other people, or that you can’t leave the house, your anxiety could be more severe. Make an appointment to see your physician as soon as possible, to discuss potential medication to help your situation.

Wikipedia defines anxiety as a physiological state characterized by cognitive, somatic, emotional, and behavioral components. Furthermore, Wikipedia says that these components combine to create the feelings that we typically recognize as fear, apprehension, or worry.

The leading cause of anxiety is stress. Stress can be brought on by many different things, including such thing as: family problems, work problems, financial difficulties. Now that we have a clear definition of what anxiety is and what causes it, let’s take a look at some simple coping methods for anxiety.

1. Get more sleep every night. Losing any amount of sleep can take a toll on your body and mind. It can also play a huge role in raising your stress levels because lack of sleep causes you to be even more irritable and nervous.

2. Drink plenty of water. Believe it or not, drinking water can help you tremendously if you are dealing with anxiety. If your body gets dehydrated, it can lead to even more stress and anxiety.

3. Add a dash of humor to your life. Buy a joke book, read the daily comics in the newspaper, or call up a funny friend and ask for a good joke. When you start feeling an anxiety attack coming on, lighten the mood with a smile.

4. Go for a massage. Sometimes you need to treat yourself to a little relaxation therapy. If you don’t like the idea of another person giving you a full-body rub-down, go for a water massage instead.

Generalized anxiety disorder is one of the most common types of anxiety disorders that affects people. [1]It is the source of extreme and unwarranted worry. Those who suffer from generalized anxiety disorder often feel anxious and worried, almost at all times. It is an insufferable illness to those it plagues.

Signs and symptoms associated with generalized anxiety disorder encompass a wide variety of things. Some patients experience feelings of restlessness and irritability. Others feel like they can’t breathe or swallow and have trouble sleeping.

In addition to these psychological symptoms, many patients suffer from physical symptoms as well, like upset stomach, diarrhea or terrible headaches. For most, these symptoms are what bring them to the doctor to begin with.

Generalized anxiety disorder makes you feel on edge all the time. Even during the times when you don’t feel the major effects (like breathlessness or tension), you may still feel a nagging sense of anxiety.

Most patients who are diagnosed with this type of anxiety disorder are treated with medications. Certain types of anti-anxiety and –depression medications available today, like Zoloft, Paxil, and Lexipro can halt the onslaught of anxiety. These medications have a high success rate during treatment of patients with generalized anxiety disorder.

In extreme cases, psychotherapy treatment is used. Patients who have greater tendencies towards negative thought patterns and behaviors are often greater candidates for psychotherapy treatment.

If you have experienced any of the mentioned symptoms of generalized anxiety disorder, consult your physician for proper diagnosis and treatment.

Anxiety is a medical condition that affects hundreds of thousands of people around the world every day. Anxiety is a permanent state of worry that almost always brings about the onset of anxiety and panic attacks. This article will show you the symptoms that can occur with an anxiety attack.

One of the most common anxiety attack symptoms many people experience is shortness of breath. This symptom presents itself in nearly every person that has anxiety attacks. You may feel as though you can’t breathe, or the breaths you take aren’t enough. Some people say they feel like they can’t get enough air when they breathe.

A second common symptom of an anxiety attack is chest pains. Quite often, people experiencing an anxiety attack will go to the emergency room because they think they are having a heart attack.

Another symptom of an anxiety attack is dizziness and dry mouth. Dizziness almost always occurs when you feel short of breath. This is simply because you begin breathing faster to compensate and usually end up hyperventilating. Dry mouth occurs because of your nervousness.

More common symptoms of anxiety attacks also include things like:

sweaty palms

claustrophobia

headache

upset stomach

racing heart

The most important thing to remember when you have an anxiety attack is to stay calm and slow your breathing. Tell yourself that you are in control of your body, not the other way around. Anxiety attacks can be very scary, but you can make it through them if you stay in control of your thoughts.

That’s just over eighteen percent of people ages eighteen and older who suffer from this terrible disorder. Of this huge amount of anxiety sufferers, many do not know why they feel the way they feel.

Causes of Anxiety

For many, anxiety is brought about by family or financial problems. Tight finances and huge debt can cause an overwhelming feeling of loss of control, which can trigger anxiety symptoms immediately. The main root of anxiety comes from worry. Worry about family issues, financial problems, work stress, etc. can lead to surmounting anxiety over a period of time.

Some of the most common things that causes anxiety include:

money problems

large amount of debt

work problems

stress

irregular routine

family problems

Symptoms of Anxiety

Anxiety presents itself in a variety of symptoms. Many people feel like they’re dying. Trips to the doctor or emergency room are not uncommon for those suffering from anxiety. Commonly reported symptoms of anxiety include:

shortness of breath

dizziness

tightness in throat

sense of loss of control

headaches

nausea

sweating

nervousness

trembling

If you are experiencing these or any other symptoms, and think you might have an anxiety disorder, it is advisable that you make an appointment with your family physician. Your doctor can pinpoint the problem and give a firm diagnosis as well as treatment to help you cope with anxiety.

Anxiety and depression are literally debilitating diseases. They can take total control of your life before you realize it. Many people suffering from anxiety and depression may not even realize it. They learn to deal with their awkward feelings and think they’re no different from everyone else.

It is for this very reason that if you know someone whom you think is suffering from anxiety and/or depression, you should offer to help them. If you think you are suffering from anxiety and depression, there are ways to overcome it. Here are seven steps to help get you started on the road to recovery:

1. Admit you have a problem. This is always the hardest part. There is nothing to be ashamed or embarrassed about. Many people suffer from exactly the same thing as you. Admitting you have a problem is the first step to a healthy recovery.

2. Recognize that this is not your fault. All too often, people suffering from anxiety or depression assume that it is because of something horrible they’ve done. In many instances, depression is brought on by chemical imbalances in your body. It has nothing to do with your spiritual state at all.

3. Be kind to yourself. When you are depressed, you beat yourself up. You berate yourself and constantly think negative thoughts. Remember to give yourself a break. Be as nice to yourself as you would be to a friend suffering the same as you.

4. Ask for help. Don’t be stubborn and tell yourself that you can get through this alone. Be bold enough to visit your family physician and ask for help.

5. Take your medication as prescribed. One of the biggest mistakes many people make is not following the doctor’s orders when it comes to medication. Just because you’re feeling better, that doesn’t mean you should stop taking your meds. Never discontinue your medication with your doctor’s orders or supervision.

6. Call on a good friend. During the times when you want to be alone, you should call a good friend and ask for company. These “dark hours” are the worst and you should never lock yourself away and suffer through it alone.

7. Start exercising regularly. Believe it or not, getting frequent exercise dramatically decreases anxiety attacks and mood swings. Get out and walk or join a local gym and start exercising as often as possible.

Procrastination and anxiety hold hands. If you’ve ever procrastinated, then you know exactly what I’m talking about. If you are procrastinating now, then you know what I’m talking about. You can’t have one without the other. Here’s why…

Procrastination, putting things off, always causes anxiety. Why? When you put something off, it’s always hanging over your head. You know that you have something to do but haven’t done it yet.

Leaving things until the very last minute is never a good thing. It stresses anyone out! The pressure of knowing that there is something that must be done will cause anxiety in a heartbeat. Knowing that you could have (and should have) done the task a week (or two!) ago stresses you out because you know you had plenty of time to do it.

Furthermore, procrastination puts you in a time crunch. Putting things off for another day means you will have to double up on your tasks for that day, or put them off for another day. It’s an endless, vicious cycle and when you get wrapped up in it, it’s difficult to get out of it.

If you spend more time procrastinating than getting things done, it’s no wonder why you’ve had anxiety attacks. Do you feel that tightness in your chest? Heavy breathing? Racing heart? Sweaty palms? These are all anxiety symptoms brought on by procrastination.

Stop hurting yourself. Stop procrastinating and your anxiety will surely cease. If you don’t believe me, then try it and see for yourself what will happen.

Depression is a serious condition that can worsen and snowball, if proper medical attention is not received early enough. Anxiety can increase symptoms of depression and create a spiraling effect in someone who has depression.

There are varying symptoms of anxiety and depression. Some symptoms can be experienced with both. Common signs of anxiety are: tightness in the chest, difficulty breathing, sweaty palms, and racing heartbeat. Likewise, common symptoms of depression are: feeling overwhelmed, tightness in the chest, wanting to retreat and hide from everyone you know, and a feeling of hopelessness.

There are many types of treatment for anxiety and depression. If you suffer from a deep depression that prevents you from being able to perform the simplest of everyday tasks, or if it causes you to retreat from your family and friends, you should seek professional medical attention immediately.

For the most part, patients with serious depression can be treated with medication. They often return to a normal life. There are side effects to taking such medication, of course. Sometimes sleepiness, drowsiness and dizziness can occur with some depression and anxiety medicine.

There are also home remedies and natural remedies that can be used to treat mild forms of anxiety and depression. Bear in mind that these remedies only work on the mildest forms of these illnesses and should not be considered an end-all treatment if you have a more serious condition.

Some simple ways you can reduce the symptoms of anxiety and depression are as follows:

· Reduce tension in your home.

· Delegate repetitive tasks.

· Exercise regularly.

· Eat healthy (eliminate all junk food, sodas, etc. from your daily diet).

· Plan ahead.

· Ask other family members for help.

· Get out once a week by yourself.

Anxiety is defined as, “A relatively permanent state of worry and nervousness occurring in a variety of mental disorders, usually accompanied by compulsive behavior or attacks of panic.” Common symptoms of anxiety include: racing heartbeat, sweaty palms, dizziness, and rapid breathing.

It is estimated that over 20 million people experience stress and related symptoms associated with anxiety disorder, phobias and panic attacks in America alone. With this alarming number rising every day, it is no wonder why so many people are stressed out. This article will give you some quick pointers on how you can relieve and reduce anxiety.

Find your center. A common source of anxiety for many is feeling out of control. An easy way to remedy this is to find your center. Practicing meditation can help you regain a sense of control, as you find your center.

Reduce your caffeine and sugar intake. One of the worst things you can do is drink lots of coffee and soda. Caffeine triggers anxiety, and probably quicker than just about anything else. Because it speeds your heart rate, caffeine should be avoided at all costs, or at the very least drink only in reduced amounts. Foods containing high amounts of sugar should be reduced as well. These cause your blood sugar levels to rise rapidly, then fall just as quickly, which results in you feeling jittery and nervous.

Pinpoint your triggers. Knowing what the source of your anxiety is can help to greatly reduce that anxiety. Ask yourself questions like:

When do I feel most anxious during the day?

Who causes feelings of anxiety in my life?

What thoughts do I have when I begin to feel anxious?

These are a few of the things that can help you to pinpoint your trigger points and begin to alleviate some of your anxiety. You can learn to control your anxiety, starting today.
