Are you feeling the compelling urge to create goals for yourself for this year? Goal setting can be very helpful in helping you accomplish more throughout the year. I’m going to give you some great tips on personal goal setting.

Goal Setting Tip #1: Look behind you. I know you’re excited about another new year. But before you jump on the same bandwagon as everyone else, take a moment to stop and look at last year. If you set goals for yourself, how did you do? Did you accomplish most of them? Did you abandon them early on? Assessing how well you did (or didn’t do) last year can be helpful when setting new goals.

Goal Setting Tip #2: Look ahead. When setting goals, it is important to think about your future. How do you see yourself in five or ten years? What will you be doing? You have to be able to answer questions like these before you can set solid goals that will work for you. Being able to see yourself in the future will help you discover what you want to do and how you can get to there from here.

Goal Setting Tip #3: Be true to yourself. All too often people set lofty goals for themselves in January. The excitement of a new year stirs creativity and energy. But eventually the euphoria wears off. What will you do then? If your goals aren’t true to who you are, they’ll never stick. You’ll end up right where you are at the end of this year, too. Be true to yourself and your goals will make perfect sense and will be highly achievable.
