Do you have trouble keeping your deadlines? Join the club! You’re one of many who make plans, but then have trouble following through with keeping the deadline. Here are some quick tips to help you set and keep those important deadlines…
TIP #1: PLAN AHEAD. Most people who have trouble keeping a deadline do so because they haven’t planned ahead very well. Often times, the calendar is full and they don’t realize it because they haven’t recorded everything on their calendar, or because they simply don’t know how to plan ahead.
TIP #2: SET YOUR PRIORITIES. Another big issue for those who have trouble keeping deadlines is that they don’t have priorities. Or maybe they think they know what their priorities are, but they’re misaligned. Write a list of everything you consider to be a priority. Next, number them, in rank of importance. Now cull that list by removing half of it. When you can get your list of priorities down to about three or five, you’ll be able to put everything else into perspective. This alone can be enormously facilitative in helping you keep important deadlines.
TIP #3: SAY NO TO THINGS THAT AREN’T REALLY IMPORTANT. One thing many people struggle with is saying no to things they don’t want to do, or things that don’t fit into their overall goals. This leads to have a huge To Do list that never seems to get done because you don’t have enough time. Then you start falling behind and can’t seem to get enough done in the amount of time you have and meet your deadlines. Learn how to say no and you’ll be able to keep more deadlines.
