If you run a business, you may be wondering how you can foster more creativity in your employees. Creativity in business is often a rare thing, unless the boss is willing to allow some flexibility in ideas among employees. Here are some simple ways you can cultivate creativity in your business:
4 Exercises to Boost Your Creativity
Are you running low on inspiration and creativity? Many artists get this way from time to time. There’s nothing worse than feeling a creative block standing in your path. I have some great tips for you on how to boost your creativity in just a few minutes.
#1 – Bring your digital camera on a nature walk. Experiencing the sights and sounds of nature cannot be compared to anything else. For an artist, this explosion of the senses can truly open you up and inspire your creativity again.
#2 – Listen to music you wouldn’t ordinarily listen to. If you’re a country music fan, try some jazz. Contrarily, if you are a rock and roll fan, listen to some Beethoven or Mozart. Interestingly enough, many experts say that listening to classical music can open up your creativity a million different ways. Give it a try!
#3 – Turn off your television for one week. More and more artists are throwing out their TV. sets these days. Have you ever wondered why? With the incessant chatter of talking in the background all day every day, we’re overcome with this flood of input. Turning off the TV. for a few days will help clear your mind and open you up again.
#4 – Step away from your art for a day. Sometimes when you’re blocked, the best thing to do is simply walk away. If your creativity level is low, you could probably benefit from leaving your art as is and coming back to it later. Sometimes all you need is just a 10- or 20-minute break. But if you’re able to walk away for a full day, you’ll find yourself yearning to get back to it and will feel an increased sense of creativity once you are able to get back to it.
Creativity in Business
Do you use the power of creativity in your business? Some business owners tend to brush aside creativity as something that doesn’t offer concrete improvement in their business. But creativity can tremendously increase not only productivity but morale as well. So how then can you use creativity in your business?
One of the first things you can do, if you have employees, is to encourage and promote their creativity as much as possible. Most especially, if you see that certain employees possess greater creative abilities, do what you can to bring out this creativity in them and encourage them to use this creativity in their jobs.
Here are more ideas on how you can boost creativity in business:
- Creative ideas usually come at odd moments. Keep a notebook with you at all times to capture your ideas. Encourage your employees to do the same as well.
- Plan a weekly or monthly brainstorming session. Gather everyone together for a roundtable brainstorming session. Bouncing ideas off each other will generate even more ideas.
- Hire a creativity coach to teach you how to increase your creative thinking and fully apply it in your business. If you want to take your creativity to the next level, hiring a coach can give you even more ideas on how to use creativity in your business.|
- Have white boards installed on your office walls. Ask anyone and they’ll tell you that white boards are conducive to creative thinking. The idea that you can write on the wall, map out ideas, plan new projects, etc. helps to stir creative juices.
- Don’t allow fear into the equation. The moment you allow fear to enter your mind, you squash creativity right then and there. Forget about fear of failure, fear of success, fear of anything. Allow yourself to be free to be creative at any point of the day.
