Are you suffering from depression? Do you fight sadness and anger at every turn? Are you having trouble even getting out of bed every morning? You can fight depression, so don’t give up. Here are some ways to deal with depression:

  1. Positive affirmations. As soon as you wake up in the morning, start speaking positive affirmations to yourself. Say them aloud. Speak them in your mind. It doesn’t matter how you do it, just continue speaking those positive affirmations to yourself throughout the day.
  2. Smile. Even when you don’t feel like it, especially when you don’t feel like it, make yourself smile. It has been scientifically proven that it takes less muscles to smile than it does to frown. So turn that frown upside down and smile.
  3. Call on a good friend. Sometimes there’s nothing you need more than someone who understands what you’re going through. Even though you want to be alone, make that call anyway.
  4. Practice being happy. I know this sounds stupid, but humor me. If you’re tired of being sad and depressed all the time, pretend you’re happy. Happiness is a choice, so choose to be happy today, even if you’re just practicing happiness.
  5. Forgive someone. One of the worst things that depresses people is holding on to old hurt and anger. It’s so easy to hold a grudge for years. That inner struggle does nothing but increase your depression. More than anything, holding those kinds of negative feelings against yourself, for some mistake you made in the past, does nothing but pile on a mountain of self-loathing during depression. Give yourself the gift of forgiveness–and others, too.

Can you deal with depression? Yes. Can you overcome depression? Without a doubt. So start today. Make conscious choices to live better, free of depression.
