Depression is a serious condition that can worsen and snowball, if proper medical attention is not received early enough. Anxiety can increase symptoms of depression and create a spiraling effect in someone who has depression.

There are varying symptoms of anxiety and depression. Some symptoms can be experienced with both. Common signs of anxiety are: tightness in the chest, difficulty breathing, sweaty palms, and racing heartbeat. Likewise, common symptoms of depression are: feeling overwhelmed, tightness in the chest, wanting to retreat and hide from everyone you know, and a feeling of hopelessness.

There are many types of treatment for anxiety and depression. If you suffer from a deep depression that prevents you from being able to perform the simplest of everyday tasks, or if it causes you to retreat from your family and friends, you should seek professional medical attention immediately.

For the most part, patients with serious depression can be treated with medication. They often return to a normal life. There are side effects to taking such medication, of course. Sometimes sleepiness, drowsiness and dizziness can occur with some depression and anxiety medicine.

There are also home remedies and natural remedies that can be used to treat mild forms of anxiety and depression. Bear in mind that these remedies only work on the mildest forms of these illnesses and should not be considered an end-all treatment if you have a more serious condition.

Some simple ways you can reduce the symptoms of anxiety and depression are as follows:

· Reduce tension in your home.

· Delegate repetitive tasks.

· Exercise regularly.

· Eat healthy (eliminate all junk food, sodas, etc. from your daily diet).

· Plan ahead.

· Ask other family members for help.

· Get out once a week by yourself.

Are you depressed? Do you think someone you know may be depressed? This article will give you the basic signs and symptoms of depression so that you can recognize them.

According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, everyone will be affected by depression at some point in their life—directly or indirectly. With this staggering research, it is of utmost importance that everyone can recognize the signs and symptoms of this devastating illness.

In order to treat depression, first you must be able to recognize it. As such, here are some common signs and symptoms of depression:

Extreme sadness – One of the most recognized signs of depression is extreme sadness. This type of sadness goes deeper than just being a little upset or sad. It is an extreme level of sadness, marked by periods of withdrawal and hopelessness.

Feelings of inadequacy – Depression often brings about a feeling of inadequacy. You generally feel like you are not worthy or that you have nothing left to offer the world or your loved ones.

Withdrawal – People suffering from depression tend to quickly withdraw from everyone and everything they enjoy doing. If they once enjoyed a hobby, they tend to walk away from it and no longer find it enjoyable. This is a huge warning sign.

Negative attitude – An indifferent or pessimistic attitude can be clearly spotted in someone suffering from depression.

Weight-loss/gain – Another common symptom of depression is weight loss or gain. Those suffering from depression will either turn to food as a comfort or stop eating altogether to punish themselves for the way they feel.

If you seem to be experiencing some or all of these symptoms of depression, please see your family physician as soon as possible for treatment.

Setting goals requires more than writing down a few notes on a piece of paper. It requires hard work, dedication and persistence to reach that final mark. How do you tend your goals?

Set Your Goals

First, you must set measurable and realistic goals. It’s okay to shoot for the month. Just be sure that you aren’t setting unrealistic expectations on yourself that you’ll never be able to hold up.

Second, think things through very carefully. As you plan how you’ll reach your goal, make sure you think through every angle. What are some common pitfalls that could potentially sidetrack you? What will you do if something deters you? How will you compensate? Have a backup plan.

Third, you have to keep a positive attitude. The worst thing you could ever do is to be negative about yourself or your goals. When you mess up (and you will), pull yourself back up and start all over again.

Remember…achieving goals requires a fine mixture of action and perseverance.

Take Care of Your Goals

You’re probably thinking, ‘How in the world does one “take care” of their goals?’ Let me explain…

Taking care of your goals simply means that you can’t toss them aside or quit when the going gets rough. Nobody is perfect; therefore mistakes are made all day, every day. But you can’t quit.

So the first thing you need to do is get it straight in your head that you will never quit—you will never give up, no matter how hard or frustrating it becomes. You will always hang on and keep trying, regardless.

That’s not to say that you won’t have to regroup and revamp your goals. Even the best-laid plans fail sometimes. If you’ve tried consistently, but nothing seems to be working right, then maybe it’s time to stop and take a look at your goals again. Are they realistic?

Tending your goals is just as important as setting them. Do what works for you. Just remember that goals aren’t set in concrete. If you need to “pluck some weeds,” or ”apply some fertilizer,” then by all means, go for it!

If you are like most, you might find it challenging to work exercise into your daily routine. Shuffling from one appointment to another, taking care of your family, and working a full-time job can leave very little (if any) time for exercise. This article will give you four very simple ways you can work exercise into your daily routines.

WALKING

When people think of walking, they usually think of sweating on a treadmill or taking a hike through the woods. But anyone can work walking into their scheduling by changing just a few things:

· Park further away from the door to the grocery store.

· Park two blocks from where you work.

· Walk around the perimeter of your building.

· Walk a few times around your house outside.

While these are very simple ideas, you can get in some great exercise by doing them.

STRETCHING

Stretching is especially important for those who work in an office environment or sit all day. Very few people consider stretching to be exercise, but it is extremely important to keep your blood flow moving. Particularly if you sit at your job, you should make stretching often a part of your daily routine.

ADOPT A DOG

In addition to a dog being a wonderful pet, it will also help you become more active. Dogs are lively animals that love to be played with and walked. It’s a fun addition to your family, and a great way to get more exercise.

JOIN AN EXERCISE GROUP

Let’s face it. Exercising alone is a drag. In fact, those who start out on their own don’t usually last very long. It’s boring when you exercise alone. Get a few friends together for frequent workouts or join a local gym and get moving with other exercise buddies.
